Ethereum 2 is a major upgrade to the existing Ethereum network, intended to scale the network’s speed and efficiency. Phase 0 of Ethereum 2, the beacon chain, was already successfully rolled out on December 1, 2020. Ethereum 2 exists separately from the incumbent Ethereum network until Ethereum will become a part of Ethereum 2 - as a result of the phase 1.5 launch.
